Older neighborhoods
West Palm Beach has 18 locally designated historic districts and 46 individually designated sites.
Grandview Heights went up from about 1910 to 1925 and has some of the city's best early craftsman bungalows. Flamingo Park counts 458 historic buildings, many in the Mission and Spanish Revival style.

Outside changes have rules
In West Palm Beach, exterior changes to a historic structure must follow the city's Historic Preservation Ordinance and Design Guidelines.
Kitchens and bathrooms are inside work, and so is interior painting. If your project also changes the outside of a historic house, talk to the city's historic preservation staff before anything is ordered.
Read the rules first
Live in a condo? Before a renovation, confirm your association's documents allow the project. Most associations ask owners for a form with the scope of work and who is doing it.
In an HOA community, check the rules too. Bring them to the visit and we go through the job with them in hand.
Permits differ by city
Inside city limits, building permits go through the City of West Palm Beach Building Division. Palm Beach County has 39 municipalities, and outside them the county handles permits.
The rules aren't the same everywhere, so we talk through what your job may need at the visit.
